A full body imaging phantom for radiation therapy
10th February 2026

The Alderson Radiation Therapy (ART) phantom provides accurate organ dosimetry measurements with minimal dosimeters
Adhering to ICRU Report 44 – Tissue Substitutes in Radiation Dosimetry and Measurement – the ART is horizontally transected into 2.5 cm slices. Each slice has holes which are plugged with pins made of materials replicating bone, lung, or other soft tissue. By providing accurate organ dose measurements through anatomical realism, this allows radiographers to accurately assess their imaging systems and allow doses to be optimized for ALARA – As Low As Reasonably Achievable.
Key features
- Available in both life-sized male and female models.
- Soft tissue closely matches the average density of real soft tissue, including density and absorption.
- Skeleton is highly detailed polymer accurately reproducing the shape, mass density, and attenuation coefficients of cortical bone and spongiosa.
- Lungs are moulded from syntactic foam with a specific gravity of 0.30 g/cc.
- Optional breast attachments contoured to fix seamlessly to thoraxes.
