We are currently looking to recruit in the following area: 

Warehouse Operative - Fixed term (12-month), part time (4hr/day) - UK (Henfield based)

The Role

Working as part of a small but busy team, this role will require you to assist in the booking in of new instruments for repair and items for customer orders as well as general stock control. You will be required to inspect items to ensure they meet our standards. You will also undertake duties in the packing and shipment of equipment. You will report to the Operations Manager.
This is a part-time role, working four hours per day five days a week with flexibility to complete during our office core hours. This is a fixed term role for 12 months, with a view to being made permanent.

Responsibilities

  • Taking control of inbound deliveries
  • Assisting with outbound deliveries
  • Checking for any damage or faults in goods
  • Picking and packing
  • Stock control
  • Other general warehouse duties as instructed by your team leader

Requirements

Essential

Business Administrator Apprentice – Fixed term (18-month) - UK (Henfield based)

The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic apprentice to join our busy office team at Southern Scientific as a Business Administrator Apprentice. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a dynamic business environment while contributing to process improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to the company and our customers and working on a project to suggest and implement process improvements using their business skills.

As part of the apprenticeship, you will be supported to undertake the Business Administrator apprenticeship (Level 3). This course will provide you with a strong grounding in the key elements of administration within a business and will give you an excellent foundation for developing your career.

Whilst this is a fixed term role for 18 months, we hope that this will become a permanent position.

Responsibilities

Day to day

  • Emails, processing customer inquiries and orders
  • Assisting with the associated paperwork for shipping of goods worldwide
  • Raising purchase orders
  • Liaising with suppliers
  • Stock control and ordering of stationary and housekeeping items
  • Printing and binding documents
  • Answering calls and general customer services
  • Offering support to Directors
  • Assistance to Sales as required

Qualtification/Project work

We will accommodate your learning needs relating to your Level 3 qualification and tie them in to daily tasks. Once you have gained a solid understanding of our business, you will have the opportunity to apply your insights and business skills acquired from your course to develop a project. This project will outline recommendations for process and business improvements within the Administration team.

R&D Engineering Year Placement - UK (Henfield based)

The Placement

As an engineering year placement, you will work with a small team of engineers to develop novel technology used in products to detect radiation for a wide variety of sectors, including nuclear power, defence, industrial and medical. You will gain industry skills and learn how to bring a product to market following the complete product development life cycle from initial concept and requirement development with help from our specialist sales colleagues, research and development of the technology/product within our group of trained engineers, and how to prepare a product for production in a low volume production department here at our site in Henfield.
We are a small team wanting to grow the R&D department and looking for a talented engineering placement student to join the team for a year and help us grow. We are predominantly interested in a candidate with an engineering background in electronics, or product design, but candidates from all other engineering disciplines will be considered based on the remaining requirements below. This role is specifically un-targeted to allow candidates from a wide variety of engineering disciplines to apply.

Your responsibilities

  • You will work in partnership with our product specialists to define user needs and input/output requirements for new product developments.
  • You will support the R&D team with the design of new technology/products and support the team with problem-solving other project issues.
  • You will help test, verify, and validate new developments and improvements to ensure robust and comprehensive solutions.
  • You will support other engineers and collaborate to create a cohesive design.
  • You will apply common project management principles and complete documentary records for safekeeping and traceability.
  • You will attend industry conferences to gain insight into competitor product development and industry trends.

Requirements

Essential

  • You must be working towards completing a degree in an engineering discipline (having completed your 2nd year (3rd year for integrated master’s students). Minimum second class expected grade.
  • You must be passionate about your chosen engineering discipline and open to learning new subjects that might be outside of your specific degree knowledge base.
  • You must have a full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.

Desirable

  • You should have excellent problem-solving, communication and time-management skills.
  • You should have a good understanding of common project management techniques and have some experience using them.
  • You should be able to work in a team environment.
