The Beacon expands the MX908’s existing capabilities to provide real-time identification of chemical threats

The MX908 high-pressure mass spectrometer is used globally by security forces and emergency services for the detection of chemical threats. The new Beacon™ expands the MX908’s existing capabilities to provide real-time identification of Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) and Pharmaceutical-Based Agents (PBAs) for extended periods, making it the only area monitor for vapor and aerosol identification.

The Beacon is an optional housing for the MX908 that allows remote monitoring of public events, critical infrastructure, and hazmat situations. Multiple Beacons can be controlled from anywhere in the world with real-time data delivered for actionable intelligence. This allows users to monitor multiple sessions in a single portal with alerts sent discreetly.

Key threat categories covered

The MX908 Beacon can be used be used to identify threats such as:

  • A-series agents (Novichok)
  • V-series agents
  • G-series agents
  • HD mustard
  • PBAs
  • Lachrymatory agents

CWAs have been a persistent concern in global security, posing a grave threat to areas in conflict. Recent years have seen disturbing incidents of their use across various parts of the worlds.

The emergence of PBAs have added to this threat. Originally designed for medical purposes, drugs like carfentanyl have become a cause of cause because of their toxicity and extreme ease of manufacturing and procurement. The idea of weaponising drugs like fentanyl represents a dangerous escalation in the ongoing battle against illicit substances. It poses challenges to police forces and emergency services as existing security measures may not be sufficient to counter this emerging threat.

Serial port standardization

Along with the Beacon, all new MX908 devices will now feature serial port hardware for quick and easy integration with third-party systems. These new serial ports can be activated in the field without a return to manufacturer.
