The groundbreaking SAM 940 Radiation Isotope Identifier (called a RIID by Dept of Homeland Security) offers a suite of features to address a growing range of applications. The SAM 940 Defender was developed to give users what they need: simple operation options, the ability react quickly, and automatically obtain reliable, accurate technical data. Several modes of operation give users a range of technical reports on isotope identification and dose rate characterisation. The most simple is a basic Isotope ID; the most complex includes nuclide specific dose calculations, GPS and historical data and an analysis of statistical confidence levels.

Upon power-up, the SAM 940 performs a quick self-test and immediately begins monitoring; even after a lengthy power-down, temperature stabilisation and automatic calibration guarantees accurate isotope identification results.

The SAM 940 Revealer comes as standard with a 1.5" x 1.5" lanthanum bromide detector (LaBr³) and the QCC™ statistical enhancement transform which provides background subtraction in real time and therefore the highest degree of sensitivity. This means fewer missed radioactive sources, tasks are completed faster and the number of reports with poor statistics are greatly reduced when brought back for analysis.

The SAM 940 is designed to operate in any background, high or low, including Bremsstrahlung or Compton, with the interference subtracted in real time (one second or less). With this advanced identifier, your spectroscopic data collection, isotope identification and data analysis reporting are all automated with exceptional resolution. This large improvement in resolution also allows quick identification of mixed radionuclides, a typical problem with the overlapping peaks of lower resolution sodium iodide detectors.
