How It Works

DeconGel is extremely versatile, for use on virtually any surface such as concrete, steel, painted or unpainted wood, aluminium, Plexiglas, tile and grout, linoleum and much more.

Safe and extremely user-friendly, DeconGel requires no preparation prior to use and can be either painted or sprayed onto a contaminated area, including cracks, pores and voids.

Easy To Use

Because DeconGel is easily sprayed or brushed onto contaminated surfaces, horizontal or vertical uses are no longer a problem. And, unlike other decontamination products, DeconGel is also safe, with virtually no odour or fumes, the use of respirators while applying the product may not be necessary (please comply with applicable corporate, local, state and Federal regulations when using DeconGel).

Super Tensile Strength

DeconGel has super tensile strength and toughness – the dried gel is difficult to tear so it peels easily from most surfaces even rough surfaces such as pavement.

Also, because DeconGel is a safe alternative to acids or soap and water, all contaminants are contained within the gel resulting in no contaminated runoff.

Lower Labor Costs

DeconGel is simple to apply, only minimal user training required. CBI Polymers does offer a full certification course for those interested in becomings certified appliers. Certification is not required to apply DeconGel. Its quick and easy application results in a cost-effective labour solution – less manpower and less application time required – for even large-scale decontamination and clean-up projects. No scrubbing is required like soap and water.

Minimized Waste Generation

Rags and large volumes of water are not used to clean with DeconGel. For radioactive contaminants, the peelable polymer is approved for disposal at WIPP and often considered low-level, non-mixed waste, so disposal is less costly than other alternatives. In addition, DeconGel is compressible to further reduce waste volume and is incinerable for those contaminants approved for incineration. Rinsing or dilution with water is not necessary with DeconGel, so contaminated liquid runoff is not an issue.

Reduces Potential Exposure to Contaminants

DeconGel reduces potential exposure to employees by encapsulating and providing a protective barrier (acting as dust suppressant).

Proven Effectiveness

DeconGel has proven its superior decontamination effectiveness at a diverse array of properties and businesses such as:

  • Commercial nuclear power plants
  • Decommissioning and decontamination (D&D) sites
  • Chemical and radiological deposits and spills in manufacturing and laboratory environments
  • DoD sites
  • Nuclear medicine deposits and spills in hospitals
  • Crime Scene Cleanup
  • Petroleum facilities
  • Meth lab decontamination
  • Etc.

1108 Gel

DeconGel 1108 is recommended for decontamination of radioisotopes as well as particulates, heavy metals, water-soluble and insoluble organic compounds, including tritiated compounds. The hydrogel coating can be applied to horizontal, vertical and inverted surfaces and can be applied to most surfaces including bare, coated and painted concrete, aluminum, steel, lead, rubber, plexiglas, herculite, wood, porcelain, tile grout, and vinyl, ceramic and linoleum floor tiles. When dry, the product locks the contaminants into a polymer matrix. The film containing the encapsulated contamination can then be peeled and disposed of according to appropriate local, state and federal regulations.

Advantages

  • No preparation or mixing required
  • Easy application
  • Simple decontamination
  • High decontamination factors
  • User and material/substrate friendly
  • Minimal odor, respirator requirement determined by substance and environment
  • Penetrates and removes contamination from cracks, pores and voids
  • Dries into tough film that is easy to peel and dispose
  • Minimizes contaminated waste material
  • Ability to re-hydrate for forensics
  • Wet Analysis

DeconGel 1120/1121 – Spray

DeconGel for Chemical and Radioactive Clean-Up (for use with hand-held or industrial airless sprayers – no dilution required)

Designed for hand-held power painters, DeconGel 1120 and 1121 (industrial airless sprayers) are the perfect solution for decontamination of radioisotopes as well as particulates, heavy metals, water-soluble and insoluble organic compounds, including tritiated compounds.

Blue Decongel is so easy to use, there is no need for mixing or diluting the product. Because there is virtually no odor or fumes, and depending upon what is being picked up, users may not need to wear respirators or gloves while handling DeconGel. CBI Polymers always recommends that users follow appropriate safety procedures in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations or policies for their area or industry.

When using DeconGel 1120 Spray, a light-duty, hand-held power sprayer with at least 2600 psi, and a wide shot tip is recommended. DeconGel can easily and quickly be applied to horizontal and vertical surfaces, to instantly control contamination. The DeconGel traps contaminants into the quick-dry, peelable gel, for 100 percent decontamination, with easy disposal.

Choosing DeconGel 1121 Spray requires an industrial electric airless sprayer with capabilities of 0.95 gallons per minute (gpm) or faster and a spray tip of 0.019 inches.

DeconGel 1121 Spray is ONLY recommended for non-porous (1 to 2 coats) or semi-porous materials (3 to 4 coats) and drying time will vary due to air temperature, humidity and thickness of applied coats of DeconGel 1121. Use of supplemental heat or air circulation can accelerate drying time.

DeconGel 1128 – Spray

DeconGel 1128 is recommended for decontamination of radioisotopes as well as particulates, heavy metals, water-soluble and insoluble organic compounds, including tritiated compounds. The hydrogel coating can be applied to horizontal, vertical and inverted surfaces and can be applied to most surfaces including bare, coated and painted concrete, aluminum, steel, lead, rubber, plexiglass, herculite, wood, porcelain, tile grout, and vinyl, ceramic and linoleum floor tiles. When dry, the product locks the contaminants into a polymer matrix. The film containing the encapsulated contamination can then be peeled and disposed of according to appropriate local, state and federal regulations.
