The identiFINDER® R-Series are easy-to-use handheld devices that quickly detect, locate, and identify radiation sources
For over 30 years, FLIR has provided different fields such as CBRNe and Nuclear with leading-edge Radiation Identification Devices (RID) that deliver rapid radioisotope identification to reduce response times. The identiFINDER® R-Series are robust, portable, handheld spectrometers that can quickly locate and measure radiation emitted by environmental, industrial, medical, and nuclear sources.
The identiFINDER® R-Series has a number of universal features that have reliably proved themselves in the field, such as a transflective color display. This allows readings to be viewed clearly in different lighting conditions and through polarised lenses, allowing it to be read in all environments, at all times. An ergonomic three-button, one-hand design allows easy usage in challenging conditions.
Radiation Identification Devices can be affected by changes in temperature or high-count rates, which can cause measurements to shift, giving false positives in the field. The identiFINDER® R-Series ingeniously corrects for these sudden changes by automatically calibrating at startup and continually stabilising measurements using a small internal source for the R400, and sourceless stabiliation methods for the R425 and R440, improving data collection and decision making.
Based on the original identiFINDER, the R400 can quickly locate, identify, and measure gamma-emitting radionuclides, as well as detect the presence of thermal neutrons in the radiation field using an optional sealed 3He neutron detector. The R400 has visible, audible, and tactile alarms that clearly indicate radioactive sources to the user during potentially difficult situations. It can operate in all environments at extreme temperatures, ranging from -30 to 60 °C.

The R425 includes the 360° Easyfinder mode to collect and interpret data, pinpointing the exact location of a source.
The internal battery lasts up to 12 hours, with optional disposable or rechargeable batteries that are hot-swappable, meaning batteries can be changed without the R425 having to power down, safeguarding users in the field.

The R440 is the most durable RID, built to survive rigorous use and lending itself to difficult environments. With the inclusion of a fully enclosed 2x2 Nal Detector, the R440 is 3.5x more sensitive than the rest of the R family and has superior resolution. Rated to IP67, it is protected from total dust ingress and water immersion for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1 metre, protecting it against weather and accidental submersion, as well as being drop-tested to 1 metre.
