AlphaPM radon progeny meter
The AlphaPM radon progeny meter is an active monitor which measures time-resolved airborne radon progeny concentration. Designed to be connected to the AlphaGUARD radon monitor, radon progeny concentration is measured in parallel to radon gas. When connected to the AlphaGUARD, the AlphaPM samples air and collects airborne radionuclides on a filter. The alpha activity is then counted, evaluated and the result is displayed and transferred to the AlphaGUARD for data storage.
Key features of the AlphaPM:
- High sensitivity – 130 pulses/h at 1 Bq/m3 EEC
- Small, portable and easy to operate
- Detection with a sensitive semiconductor (PIPS)
- Time-resolved measurement for the exact determination of radon levels
- Internal battery allows independent operation of at least 24 h at a flow rate of 2 L/min
- Suitable for short-term and long-term applications
- Sampling period from 0.5 h to 24 h (or continuously)

AquaKit for determination of the Radon concentration in water
The AquaKIT can be used for fast determination of the Radon concentration in water samples. Used in combination with the AlphaGUARD, the AquaKIT is suitable for use in the lab and in the field, giving direct and precise measurements. In up to 15 minutes, radon concentrations in the range of 5 – 20,000 Bq/L can be measured in water samples.
The complete AquaKIT measuring set-up is placed in a special transport/storage case, resistant to fracture.
The Aquakit set includes the following components:
- Degassing vessel for gas washing modified for the particular measuring task
- Security vessel for minimization of the stress for the radon monitor
- Universal spare vessel for the usage in case of fracture or loss of the degassing- or security vessel
- Storage vessels for sampling for the gastight storage of water samples (2 x 100 ml, 2 x 500 ml)
- Plastic injections for sampling (4 x 100 ml)
- Mounting socket for a stable set-up of the measuring equipment
- Connecting tubes (7 x)
- Measuring cylinder for the determination of the sample volume
- Thermometer for laboratory use (-10°C … +50°C)
- Heat resistant active coal filter cartridge for minimizing the radon background in the system prior to precision measurements (volume: 1 000 cm³)
Soil Gas Probe for monitoring radon in soil gas
The Soil Gas Probe allows the sampling and continuous monitoring of radon in soil gas. Used in combination with the AlphaGUARD, the Soil Gas Probe is robust and provides a reliable set-up for long-term use.
The Soil Gas Probe components:
- Drilling rod ø 22 mm, length 1 m, hammering head and handle
- Exchangeable probe tip with airlock and rivet holder
- Capillary probe for reliable routing of the measuring gas
- Aqua-stop filter
- 2 m connection tube
- 50 rivets, spare parts and tools
Equipment for Remote and Stationary Monitoring
COM Server – for manual read-out of data
The COM Server allows remote data readout from an AlphaGUARD via LAN, in connection with DataVIEW PRO.
To achieve this, the AlphaGUARD is to be connected to the COM Server (at the site of the AlphaGUARD) via RS232. Readout of data can then be performed using a laptop or computer with DataVIEW PRO installed, connected either directly to the COM Server via a LAN connection, or to an internet router connected to the COM Server (by LAN connection).
DACC – Data Acquisition and Configuration Computer – for real-time monitoring of data
The DACC is a versatile data logger and configuration interface with an embedded web server for remote, real-time monitoring, used in connection with DataEXPERT 10. The DACC can easily be integrated into LAN networks, allowing remote testing, automatic transmission of measurement data and configuration interventions of the AlphaGUARD.
To achieve this, the AlphaGUARD is to be connected to the DACC (at the site of the AlphaGUARD) via RS232. Remote connection to the AlphaGUARD can then be achieved using a laptop, computer, tablet or mobile phone with DataEXPERT 10, connected directly to the DACC via LAN or to an internet router connected to the DACC (by LAN connection).
