Introducing the new Handhound

21st June 2011

Contamination monitoring of personnel in controlled areas is a legal requirement under IRR99. A budget-sensitive solution comes in the form of the new Handhound from Southern Scientific.

The Handhound is wall-mounted in a stainless steel enclosure and provides a number of novel features to monitor and record radiation levels on staff hands, whilst removing the risk of equipment contamination.

How is this achieved? Operation of the device is entirely hands free. A scan is automatically initiated when a user places their hands under the detector, whilst accurate voice recognition allows them to select their name from a pre-programmed list to begin the reading. Following the scan, an 'all clear' or 'exceeded threshold' signal is given by an on-screen image. Accountability is provided by an electronic log of each measurement, including username, time and location.

The SSL Handhound is an innovative, yet cost effective solution to personnel contamination monitoring in controlled areas.
