Fido® XT Explosives Detector

FLIR

Weighing just 2.4lbs (1kg), the Fido Portable Explosives Detector is the world's most sensitive explosives detection system.

Detects common military-grade compounds used in homemade explosives and IED's, including PETN. Based on breakthrough detection technology, the combat proven Fido® XT is currently in use throughout Iraq and Afghanistan.

Unlike other systems, the Fido XT uses a polymer-based technology to achieve better and faster detection results. This innovative material provides an immediate response before rapidly resetting for continued screening operations.

TheFido XT is the only explosives detector able to be mounted as a payload on a robot with effective results.

Applications

  • Fieldable Trace Explosives Detection
  • People Screening
  • Vehicle Screening
  • IED Detection
  • Forensics Screening
  • Cargo Screening

Features

Swift, Accurate Explosives Vapor Detection : By integrating ultra-sensitive detection technology into a user friendly device, it is ready for most operational scenarios.

Small Size : The entire system - handheld control unit, sensor head and tether - weighs less than 3lbs with a four hour battery. It is supplied in a watertight case, including a supply of consumables and 3 rechargeable batteries.

Ultra-low Sensitivity : The exquisite sensitivity of the Fido XT is due to the unique amplifying fluorescent polymer (AFP) technology. AFP provides a detectable response to explosive materials at levels as low as a few femtograms (parts per quadrillion). This makes the unit a thousand times more sensitive than it's nearest competitors, and it's performance is comparable to that of highly trained explosive detection dogs.

Rapid Sensor Response : The unit provides real time explosives detection for practical screening operations. Detection occurs in the Sensing Element and has a reversible detection response, allowing it to be reused many times, with only seconds between screenings. Results are displayed in real time on the LCD screen and through an audio signal similar to that of a Geiger counter.

Data Logging : Incorporated memory card for continuous tracking of detection results. With this data logging capacity, samples can be taken from multiple sources and file numbers tracked for later output and study. These quantitative explosives detection results can help establish justifiable cause or to back up expert witness testimony.

Ease of Use : The unit was specifically designed for ease of use, and can operate for approximately 4 hours on a single camcorder-style battery. The system requires only 2 consumables - the Sensing Element and Sampling Swipes. Replacement of both the Sensing Element and the battery is simple and requires no tools.
